Barricades at the entrances to communities is not a new initiative, but the idea extends to the slums of Pétion-Ville.
This area -characterized by its peace- is coveted by criminal gangs as it is included in the 20 percent of the territory that the bandits do not control in Port-au-Prince.
The terror is so notorious that some neighborhoods already have brigades in charge of guarding the entrances and exits.
The creation of these popular detachments is an effort of the neighbors to preserve their lives and their property, and although they are aware of the work of the police, they know that it is insufficient to stop a coalition of gangs that carry out attacks and looting in a coordinated manner.
In this context, the Haitian National Police reinforced its surveillance of the National Palace, which was attacked for the second time by criminal gangs, without being able to seize the building.
The urban battle was pitched and four policemen were wounded, while the gangs captured an armored car and burned it, reports the newspaper Le Facteur Haiti.
Apparently -reported the digital newspaper- the coalition of “Let’s Live Together” gangs wanted to prevent the installation of the Presidential Transitional Council.
