Due to reports on alleged Sri Lankan soldiers on the battlefield, the military military corps explained in a press conference that it has no relation to this and that there are no agreements with Russia or Ukraine in this regard.
All members of the three Sri Lankan forces were instructed not to join the Russian or Ukrainian troops by illegal means, the Defense Ministry added in the press release, which was quoted by local media.
Regarding recent reports in the foreign press about two alleged Sri Lankan soldiers killed in combat, the official source specified that no information on this matter had reached the country’s embassies in the respective countries.
According to the local media outlet Adaderana, it was reported in December 2023 that three Sri Lankan mercenaries had been killed in a Russian attack while serving in the Ukrainian army.
It also stressed that international news services have talked about Sri Lankan citizens in Russia who have joined the military in that country.
