According to a statement from the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the crisis in Gaza was one of the leading issues discussed by the two diplomats during a phone call.

Shoukry and Amir-Abdollahian stressed the need for Israel to stop its war campaign against that territory, where more than 32,000 people have reportedly been killed. The Iranian and Egyptian ministers also rejected the forced displacement of Palestinians out of the Gaza Strip and any land attack on the city of Rafah, bordering Egypt.

They also called for ensuring sustained humanitarian access to the Strip and urging Israel to remove obstacles restricting the entry of essential supplies into the territory.

Shoukry expressed Cairo’s deep concern over the escalating conflict in the region, especially in the southern Red Sea region, where Houthi rebels have launched a wave of attacks against ships linked to Israel and its allies.
