Colombia will join South Africa’s case against Israel at The Hague

Bogota, Apr 1 (Prensa Latina) The National Government of Colombia informed that it had decided to intervene in the case filed by South Africa against Israel at the International Court of Justice in The Hague "to contribute in a tangible way to the defense of the Palestinian cause."

“Invoking the mechanism provided for in Article 63 of the Statute of the Court, we are going to present to the Court our interpretation of the norms of the Convention against genocide that Israel ignores with its military actions in Gaza,” the statement released during this day by the Foreign Ministry reads.

It also informed that President Gustavo Petro and acting Foreign Minister Luis Gilberto Murillo issued instructions so that in the next few days a Declaration of Intervention of Colombia under the aforementioned Article 63 be deposited in that Court.

The official press release also urged other States parties to the 1948 Convention to proceed in the same manner, “not only as a show of solidarity with Palestine in this tragic hour, but also as a repudiation of the violations of this important treaty that Israel is committing and that cannot go unpunished.

“The international community cannot remain unmoved when a country uses starvation as a method of warfare. This is a gross violation of international law that cannot be tolerated,” the text sentenced.
