Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin stressed that since the return of the Hong Kong special administrative region (HKSAR) to China, Beijing unwaveringly maintains the principles of “one country, two systems” and guarantees a high degree of autonomy.
He also highlighted Chinese efforts in implementing the Hong Kong National Security Law and other measures to safeguard the stability and prosperity of the region.
The spokesman reiterated that the affairs of the HKSAR are internal, and the Chinese government is determined to protect its sovereignty and security.
Wang Wenbin urged the United States to respect China’s sovereignty, stop interfering in Hong Kong affairs, and comply with international law and basic norms of international relations.
He also warned that if the United States continues to impose visa restrictions on HKSAR authorities, Beijing will respond firmly.
“Hong Kong has undergone a great transformation from chaos to order and prosperity, and the cause of ‘one country, two systems’ will steadily and successfully move in the right direction,” he emphasized.
The HKSAR rejected last Sunday a report under the name of ‘Hong Kong Policy Law 2024’, prepared by the United States, describing it as an attempt to undermine the prosperity and stability of Hong Kong.
