The digital version of O Tempo newspaper alluded to this fact and pointed out that this commission, aimed at investigating crimes committed during that military period, was extinguished by the Government of former President Jair Bolsonaro (2019-2022).
According to officials interviewed by O Tempo in Brasília, the victims’ families are trying to exert pressure. No significant progress has been reported so far.
The Ministry of Human Rights and Citizenship conducted the Commission’s revival, and there is still no definite date for its implementation.
From a bureaucratic point of view, the responsibility is no longer in that Ministry and is now in the hands of the country’s President.
A source consulted by the newspaper pointed out that the reactivation will not be held this year because the founder of the Workers’ Party avoids conflicts with the military. Improving relations with this group is one of his priorities.
