The Commission for Prisoners and Ex-Prisoners Affairs and the Prisoners’ Club warned in a joint statement that this number does not include all the detainees in the Gaza Strip.
They specified that since that date, the Israeli security forces have arrested 7,870 Palestinians in the West Bank, many of whom are still imprisoned.
They also accused Israel of increasing mistreatment and violations against prisoners and their families.
The joint statement stresses that the occupation forces at various levels and the prison administration are committing systematic crimes, torture, abuse, and aggression against the prisoners.
Both organizations criticized Israel’s silence on the thousands of detainees in the coastal enclave, whose location is unknown.
The Prisoners’ Club denounced this month the increase in torture carried out by the Israeli Prison Service against Palestinian prisoners, which, it warned, will lead to more murders in the country’s prisons.
