In his declarations, Murillo remarked that the reason for the expulsion of the Argentinean diplomatic staff, which took place last Wednesday, was an act “to defend the dignity of the Colombian president”.
He affirmed that “we will not allow him to continue insulting with disobliging and unacceptably disrespectful words against President Gustavo Petro, democratically elected by the Colombian people”, referring to the offenses that the president of Argentina, Javier Milei, made against his Colombian counterpart by describing him as a terrorist murderer.
In an interview with the local newspaper El Tiempo, the miniter stated that “Colombia and Argentina are brotherly peoples with a historic bilateral relationship”. He also hoped that “this difficult moment can be overcome and that the Argentine government may understand our message, but the latest statements of President Javier Milei indicate that so far this has not been the case”.
He reaffirmed, however, that diplomatic relations between Colombia and Argentina were not destroyed.
