The Defense Ministry stated that the military units operating in the western countryside of Aleppo successfully fought back an attack launched by groups of the known Levant Liberation Board, formerly Al-Nousra Front, placed on the list of international terrorism.
According to the military agency’s press release, soldiers inflicted numerous casualties on the terrorists and managed to remove the bodies of some, including foreign mercenaries affiliated with the “Turkestan Foreigners Brigade” group.
The attack coincided with an Israeli air aggression and another drone attack launched by terrorists on the city of Aleppo.
In addition, the Ministry reported an attack by the Islamic ISIS group on Syrian army positions in the vicinity of the municipality of Palmyra, located in the Syrian Desert, in eastern Homs province.
Heavy explosions rocked at dawn in the province of Aleppo resulting from an Israeli aggression described as the most violent ever recorded.
According to residents and activists, the shelling was aimed at targets in the vicinity of Aleppo International Airport, the town of Jebrin, and warehouses and facilities of the Defense Ministry’s military-industrial complex in the town of Sfeira.
The aggression occurred a few hours after a similar one that destroyed a residential building in the Syrian town of Sayeda Zainab, located about 10 kilometers south of Damascus, the capital.
On March 17th and 19th, two Israeli strikes hit ammunition warehouses and military points in the mountainous region of Al-Qalamoun north of Damascus.
Israel constantly shells Syrian territory under the pretext of attacking pro-Iranian militias, while Damascus claims that those acts constitute a violation of its sovereignty and international law.
The Foreign Ministry urged the UN Security Council to fulfill its responsibilities and put an end to those aggressions.
