New wave of violence in Ecuador under a state of exception

Quito, Mar 28 (Prensa Latina) A new wave of violence broke out in Ecuador on Thursday, two weeks before the end of the state of emergency decreed by President Daniel Noboa.

The city of Guayaquil woke to violence and at least 13 criminal events, according to Mayor Aquiles Alvarez on his X account.

Precisely on Wednesday night, a riot took place in the regional prison in this coastal city in Guayas province, where at least one person was killed and four were injured, according to unofficial reports.

Videos posted on social networks showed fires in the cells of the penitentiary and the detonation of firearms.

Meanwhile, two vehicles were set on fire at the entrance of the city of Sucre, in the north of Manabí province, near the Miguel H. Alcívar hospital.

Initial police reports indicate that one of the vehicles belonged to a municipal official from Manabí.
