At the meeting, held in Beijing, the delegations from the two countries review views on how to achieve a complete withdrawal and resolve remaining issues along the dividing areas between the two nations in the western sector, according to the Indian Ministry of External Affairs.
Led by the joint secretary (East Asia) of the Indian Foreign Ministry and the director general of the Chinese diplomacy’s Boundary and Oceanic Department, the meeting showed agreement between the two sides on the need to maintain peace and tranquility on the ground in accordance with existing bilateral agreements and protocols, according to New Delhi.
They also agreed on the importance of maintaining regular contacts through diplomatic and military channels, an official statement said.
The meeting came days after the Chinese Defense Ministry Spokesman, Col. Zhang Xiaogang, questioned the recent deployment of Indian soldiers along the border.
At a press conference in Beijing, the military spokesman said that this action contradicted the efforts to maintain stability in the region.
However, Zhang confirmed that the India-China border maintains a generally stable situation at present and the two nations keep effective communication through diplomatic-military channels to resolve problems on the spot.
