In their first press release to the population, the CPT figures were not in a position to say when there will be internal elections to choose the CPT’s chair, nor when they will be officially appointed and installed in their positions.
“At this moment of serious crisis for our nation, the representatives of Haiti’s main political, civil society, and economic sectors announce their collective decision to lead, through the formation of a Presidential Council, the transition towards the reestablishment of constitutional order,” the press release underlines.
“We are determined to alleviate the suffering of the Haitian people, trapped for too long between misrule, violence with different faces and disregard for their perspectives and needs,” it added.
The press release noted, “We promise that as soon as the CPT is installed, we will appoint a prime minister to create a government of national unity, in which legitimacy, stability and democratic dignity will be paramount.”
It underscored, “Our idea is to restore public order, security for the lives and properties of the people, the alleviation of poverty and the holding of free elections, as well as the reforms necessary for the progress of the nation.”
