Velasco joined the dozens of voices that repudiated the comments made by Milei on an interview to the U.S. CNN TV channel, and claimed an apology to the Colombian people and an explanation to the Argentinian citizens.
“The tawdry attitude, that of a village bully may be profitable in a low-level electoral debate, but it should never be the behavior of a head of State,” the minister posted on X. Velasco went on to say, “in Colombia, we respect the Argentinian people, but we do not accept the treatment given by their President Milei to our President Petro since we respect the fruit of a democratic process so that we make respect other nations.”
“Mr. Milei, you made a mistake in a serious matter and you owe an excuse to the Colombian people and an explanation to your people, Argentina is much more than your fits,” the minister highlighted.
The repulse to Milei’s offenses is replicated on Thursday both by Petro’s acolytes, as well as by some of his detractors in Colombia.
The Senate’s head Ivan Name, who is distinguished by the objections made to Petro’s Administration stated that he “repudiates the disrespect” of Milei against the Colombian head of State.
Meanwhile, the Chair of the House of Representatives Andres Calle expressed to back the Government’s decision to expel the Argentinian diplomats from Colombia, and that institutionalism must be defended.
