The new polio clinical trial is being carried out in the province of Camagüey, in the east of Cuba, which was chosen for its experienced health personnel and its renowned clinical practices, Granma newspaper reported.
Cuba was the first country in the Americas to eliminate this highly contagious childhood disease, since 1962.
This trial seeks to investigate whether a 0.1 mL dose of Inactivated Poliovirus Vaccine is more effective than the 0.5 mL dose used in other countries.
The research on the percentage of children who release poliovirus after being vaccinated began in the nine health areas of the municipality of Camagüey.
The study has 39 infants born between June and August 2023 and is divided into two phases: the first one started this March and the second one is scheduled between April and May, local radio station Radio Cadena Agramonte reported.
