Mexican authorities are working to control 116 forest fires

Mexico City, Mar 27 (Prensa Latina) Around 6,000 members of various institutions are working to control 116 forest fires located in different areas of Mexico, announced today President Andrés Manuel Lopez Obrador, who regretted the death of four people.

During his usual press conference, the President said that entities such as the Ministries of Defense and the Navy, Civil Protection and the National Forestry Commission, together with local authorities, are dealing with the situation, for which helicopters and permanent brigades are being used.

He specified that four people died in the context of the fires: two community members, a policeman and a forestry brigade worker.

The governor considered that progress is being made and mentioned as an example the control yesterday of one of these fires in Valle de Bravo, in the State of Mexico, where there are more than 20 of the total, at the same time he made reference to investigations on whether some of these events have been provoked or are due to drought.

Before, they were provoked because the custom was to burn the forest so that with the rain the grass would appear for animals, and large fires were produced, out of control, but also the real estate interests are always there, he asserted.

He called on the citizens to act carefully and assured that up to now there is no serious risk for the populations.
