Following the outbreak, Chilea´s Health Ministry (MINSAL) ordered to increase control of the Aedes aegypti mosquito.
Health authorities conduct fumigations in high-risk areas to eliminate possible vector breeding sites and recommended population not to keep containers with stagnant water.
They also called to pay attention to symptoms including fever above 38 degrees, headache, muscle pain and skin rash.
On the Chilean mainland, around 100 cases of dengue have also been reported, but according to the Minsal, all of them are imported by people who were infected in other countries of the region.
