Cuban Parliament president receives Vietnamese ambassador

Havana, Mar 27 (Prensa Latina) The president of the National People's Power Assembly of Cuba (Parliament), Esteban Lazo, received Vietnamese Ambassador Le Quang Long, who begins his diplomatic mission in Cuba, local media reported on Wednesday.

At the meeting at the National Capitol, Lazo told the diplomat that he has the support of the supreme organ of State power to carry out his functions, which will contribute to strengthening historic bilateral relations.

Lazo, who is also the president of the Council of State, highlighted the close ties of friendship forged by the historic leaders of both peoples, Fidel Castro and Ho Chi Minh.

He described the mutual relationship as exemplary, a symbol of our times, of profound solidarity and unity.

Lazo recalled that the 50th anniversary of Fidel Castro’s first visit to Vietnamese territory was last year, which marked a milestone in diplomatic ties.

Among the activities in tribute to this event, he mentioned the official visit of the member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam and the president of the National Assembly, Vuong Dinh Hue, to Cuba, from April 18 to 23, 2023.

He commented that a Special Parliamentary Magazine “Cuba and Vietnam: a symbol of brotherhood” was recently launched at the National Capitol, in salute to the 60th anniversary of the Cuban Committee of Solidarity with South Vietnam and in the framework of the 63rd anniversary of diplomatic relations.

He also went deep into the current national situation of confrontation with the intensified economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the Government of the United States, and thanked Vietnam for its invariable support for the lifting of this criminal policy.

Le Quang Long, in turn, assured that it is a true honor to have been appointed ambassador to a brotherly country.

At the same time, the Vietnamese parliamentarian recalled that his nation will never forget Cuba’s support in its resistance against the invaders, and ratified the willingness to strengthen cooperation in the face of the current difficulties faced by the Cuban people.
