China welcomes Mexico’s position in favor of bilateral cooperation

Beijing, Mar 27 (Prensa Latina) China applauded Mexico's position in favor of bilateral economic-trade cooperation despite threats from Donald Trump.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jin highlighted that Mexico and Beijing advocate inclusive economic globalization while underscoring the good friendship between the two countries, and added that mutually beneficial results are the essential characteristics of economic and trade between both nations. He also reiterated China’s willingness to further deepen the content of their comprehensive strategic partnership.

Mexican President Manuel López Obrador recently assured that he does not want a trade war with China and that Chinese investments in Mexico will continue.

The president made these comments in response to a question about former US President Donald Trump’s threat to impose high tariffs on Chinese cars manufactured in Mexico.

Between January and November 2023, China exported 376,000 vehicles to Mexico, which became the second-largest export market for Chinese-made automobiles. In March of that same year, Chinese manufacturer BYD entered the Mexican automobile market, launching mostly pure electric and hybrid vehicles.

The firm plans to build 50 dealerships in Mexico by the end of 2024, aimed at offering more options to local customers, according to a recent report by the Xinhua news agency.
