Japan supports food production in Cuban provinces

Havana, Mar 26 (Prensa Latina) Japanese cooperation with Cuba promotes projects in several provinces, aiming at strengthening food production, technical capabilities, and nutritional information.

The contract signing ceremony for an initiative that seeks to contribute to the recovery and resilience of local food systems in the municipalities affected by Hurricane Ian in 2022, will take place this Tuesday in the province of Pinar del Río.

The project will have financing of 62,500 Euros and will lay the foundations for greater food production and a stable supply in the areas that suffered damage from the hurricane, through the installation of processing equipment, freezers, and transport vehicles in two organoponics in Pinar del Río municipality.

In the opinion of the Japanese ambassador in Havana, Hirata Kenji, the cooperation projects promoted in Cuba represent a message of solidarity and support to the Cuban people. The diplomat highlighted that despite the geographical distances and differences between both peoples, for Japan, Cuba has always been a friend.

According to the website of the Japanese embassy, Japan’s cooperation with Cuba focuses on assistance for sustainable development, and its priority areas are agricultural development, health and medicine, environmental protection and the improvement of social bases.
