Violence persists despite exception state in Ecuador

Quito, Mar 25 (Prensa Latina) Violent events persist today in Ecuador despite the state of emergency and the government's declaration of internal armed conflict due to the lack of structural changes, security expert Fernando Carrión said.

Ecuador experienced a weekend with incidents, such as the murder of Brigitte García, councilwoman of San Vicente municipality, and her advisor, a fact that shows how insecurity is still present in the national scenario, even when the military is in the streets.

Last Saturday there was a bomb threat that forced the evacuation of a stadium in the city of Latacunga, where a game of the local first division tournament was being played. The police confirmed in a message on the social network X that they located five explosive charges inside a backpack in the parking lot of the sports center and carried out a controlled detonation.

In addition, in the province of Santa Elena, on the coast, at least six people were killed as a result of an armed attack that authorities link to disputes associated with organized crime. For Carrión, a university professor and lecturer at the Latin American Faculty of Social Sciences (Flacso), if structural changes are not made, the situation of violence will once again gain ground.
