Based on the navy’s information, the operation was a hard blow to the finances of drug trafficking, since if it had been commercialized, the drug would have reached a value of more than 15 million dollars in the United States.
The report added that the Colombian Air Force and the Navy located from the air a boat that was moving suspiciously in the Mallorquín swamp, in the north of the mentioned department.
Immediately, the information detailed, Coast Guard units were deployed by sea and began the pursuit of individuals who, upon detecting the presence of the authorities, fled, throwing packages into the sea and leaving the vessel in a nearby place.
Upon inspecting the place, they found the boat with a 60 year old man, 18 packages and material used to pollute boats on the high seas.
It is presumed, said the source, that the objective of the individuals was to contaminate a merchant ship, which had sailed from the port of Santa Marta, in the northeastern department of Magdalena, bound for Costa Rica.
