More than 150,000 Haitians left the country for the US

Port-au-Prince, Mar 25 (Prensa Latina) More than 150,000 Haitians had left the country until February this year for the United States, a trend that remains in the plans of citizens overwhelmed by despair.

The migration phenomenon has gained notoriety since 2023 under the administration of US President Joe Biden with the Humanitarian Parole program that provides an online application and the support of a sponsor. Until February, the number people who had benefited from the parole totaled 151,000.

In this line, the emigration of ordinary citizens, education and health professionals and executives from different fields has generated another concern in Haiti.

In 2023, the Haitian population tried to survive, but many already felt disoriented, tired and discouraged due to the deterioration of security, increased inflation and the sharpening of political contradictions.

Living amid organized crime, sexual violence, unemployment, among other difficulties, is no longer an option, and they turn their gaze to destinations such as Mexico, Canada and the United States. More than 100,000 Haitians arrived in the latter last year.
