Cuban Foreign Minister pays tribute to victims of slavery

Havana, Mar 25 (Prensa Latina) Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez paid tribute on Monday to the victims of slavery, on the International Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Slavery and the Transatlantic Slave Trade.

On his X account, the head of Cuban diplomacy expressed support for the just demands for reparations and compensation presented by Caribbean countries to former metropolises for those crimes against humanity.

Rodríguez recalled that as a consequence of the cruel and inhumane slave trade, nearly 1.3 million Africans arrived in Cuba.

According to the United Nations, the commemoration of this date offers the opportunity to honor and remember those who suffered and died at the hands of this brutal system of slavery.

The objective of the International Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Slavery and the Transatlantic Slave Trade is to raise awareness of the dangers of racism and today’s prejudices.

For more than 400 years, more than 15 million men, women and children were victims of the deplorable transatlantic slave trade, one of the darkest chapters in human history.
