This was stated by Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian when referring to the latest declarations of the Paraguayan executive which endorsed the 66 years of ties with the insular region.
According to the president of that country, Santiago Peña, Paraguay still exports soybeans to China, therefore its diplomatic relations with Taiwan have not hindered trade links with Beijing.
Spokesman Lin denied this statement and assured that according to China’s official statistics, “in recent years the amount of soybeans imported from that nation has been zero”.
“Taiwan is an inseparable part of Chinese territory. The government of the People’s Republic of China is the only legitimate government that represents all of China,” he stressed.
He also reiterated that the one China principle is recognized as a norm of relations worldwide and a general consensus in the international community.
Paraguay is one of a dozen countries that still maintain diplomatic ties with Taiwan, a tiny number compared to the 183 nations, including the United States, that support Beijing.
