Sanctions on Russia never sought peace in Ukraine, Austria affirms

Vienna, Mar 22 (Prensa Latina) The sanctions on Russia were never an instrument to seek peace in the Ukrainian conflict, Austrian Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg admitted on Friday, quoted by the capital's television.

An official statement noted that Schallenberg repeated his earlier statements that the restrictions imposed on Moscow were never intended to bring peace to the confrontation. On the contrary, their purpose was to create hardships for Russia to wage war.

The head of Austrian diplomacy believes that applying sanctions on third countries for violating the sanctions regime imposed on Russia are debatable issue. It is necessary to focus first on companies.

Western powers applied 17,800 unilateral punitive measures against Russia, 2,500 of them even before President Vladimir Putin ordered a military operation on February 24, 2022, to protect the rebellious Donbas region.

Since the hostilities started, the West has supplied Kiev with more than 156 billion dollars of weapons. Following this, an economic war against Russia was launched.
