DCR’s Vice Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Christophe Lutundula and Rwanda’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Vincent Biruta led the respective delegations of their countries in a meeting mediated by Angolan Foreign Minister, Téte António.
According to the source, Thursday’s meeting was held in a cordial and serene atmosphere, marked by optimism for achieving a lasting peace. As a result, both parties agreed to meet shortly, also in this capital.
The meeting followed the agreement signed by the presidents of the DRC and Rwanda to launch a process that led to a dialogue between the two leaders.
This agreement emerged from talks held in Luanda by President João Lourenço with both parties individually as a mediator appointed by the African Union to resolve the conflict involving the two countries.
Tensions between Rwanda and the DRC have increased in the last few months due to the escalation of violence in the Congolese territory, where several armed groups are attacking the civilian population and holding parts of the territory.
