The price of the urban CBA rose only seven cents in February, while the rural one reached five cents, according to the National Statistics and Census Office (Onec).
In the latest update of the CBA, a sensitive line item in the family economy and key to measuring inflation, the Onec specified that the basic basket in the urban area reached $256.81, slightly higher than the $256.74 reported in January 2024.
A year ago, in the same month of 2023, Salvadorans spent $249.70 dollars, which implies that the urban CBA increased by 7.11 in one year, in addition to accumulating nine consecutive months with a price above $250.
This indicates that the majority of the Salvadoran population consumes most of its salary (minimum wage $365) in food. Since August 2021 there has been no increase in what a Salvadoran earns.
