In a joint press conference, the General Labor Confederation, the Argentinean Workers Central (CTA), the Autonomous CTA, the Grandmothers and Mothers of Plaza de Mayo, the Nobel Peace Prize winner Adolfo Pérez Esquivel and other personalities and organizations stressed the importance of a massive mobilization in unity.
As planned, thousands of people will arrive at the Plaza de Mayo in the capital city, 48 years after the coup d’état against former President María Estela Martínez, which started the last civil-military dictatorship in this country (1976-1983).
In addition to remembering the 30 thousand citizens detained, tortured, murdered and forcibly disappeared during that period, the participants in the demonstration will demand the continuity of the judicial proceedings against those responsible for the crimes against humanity perpetrated during those years.
According to the General Secretary of the CTA-A, Hugo Godoy, this year the march acquires a “historical and tragic” character since it will be necessary to denounce the adjustment policies and the denialism of Javier Milei’s Executive.
