After reiterating they do not want any grain from Russia and Belarus on the EU markets, Von der Leyen mentioned the possibility of transit and the guarantee of supplying these inputs to the so-called Global South and other regions around the globe.
At a press briefing, Von der Leven also announced the EU’s proposal to raise customs duties (by 50%) on grain, oilseeds and by-products imported from Russia and Belarus.
According to Financial Times, the EU bought a record four million tons of supplies from Moscow in 2023, a figure described as a record. It is equivalent to 1% of the EU’s consumption.
