Venezuelan Foreign Minister celebrates Namibia’s independence

Caracas, Mar 21 (Prensa Latina) Venezuela's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yván Gil, celebrated today the 34th anniversary of Namibia's independence.

After years under colonial occupation by Germany and South Africa, the latter as part of the British Empire, the African state achieved its emancipation, the senior diplomat wrote on the social network X.

“A milestone that marked the end of oppression and discrimination”.

!Today the peoples of Africa are reborn!’, Gil noted.

On March 21, 1990 Namibia proclaimed its final independence and elected Sam Nujoma as president of the newly independent state.

Both nations established diplomatic relations on May 22, 1990 and these relations were strengthened with the arrival to power of Commander Hugo Chavez (1954-2013).

At present, Caracas and Windhoek have signed 22 cooperation instruments in the areas of politics, education, culture, library services, communication, mining, oil, agriculture, housing, women and gender equality, electoral processes, labor and social development.
