The 15-member body urged support for the National Police and insisted on the pressing need to restore public order through the swift deployment of the Multinational Security Support mission, authorized by UNSC itself back in October 2023.
The note also recognized UNSC´s role in improving the effectiveness of sanctions and thus preventing further escalation and deterioration of the situation in Haiti, which in recent weeks has led to the displacement of over 17,000 people from Port-au-Prince.
The UNSC expressed deep concern over the unlawful flow of arms and ammunition into Haiti, which continues to be major factor of instability and violence.
In this regard, UNSC insisted on the obligation of member states to implement arms embargo in accordance with the relevant resolutions.
The Security Council also recognized the key role of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) in facilitating Haiti’s efforts to overcome the current political impasse and security situation.
