Cuban Embassy calls for strong ties with residents in Panama

Panama, Mar 21 (Prensa Latina) The Cuban Embassy in Panama on Thursday called for a systematic rapprochement with its compatriots here, as part of a policy to strengthen those ties.

During a meeting with representatives of that community, attended by Ambassador Victor Cairo, Consul Mahivyn Rodriguez said that the exchange takes place amid the intensification of unilateral measures as part of the United States blockade against her country to impact the economic situation and affect the standard of living and welfare of families.

The diplomat noted that since July 2023, measures such as the reduction of the consular fee associated with passport applications, the elimination of the extension of the validity of this document and the extension of its validity from six to 10 years, which facilitates procedures and eliminates obstacles for an increasingly fluid communication with nationals, have come into effect.

On this occasion, participants were briefed on topics of interest in a conversation with the administrator of the airport zone of the customs of the Tocumen International Airport, Yanela Melo de Pierce; and the lawyer specialized in migratory law, Irma Silka.

Regarding these kinds of meetings and their future, Cairo stressed the commitment to a dialogue that proposes new goals and a critical thinking that helps everyone move forward, those in Cuba resisting a genocidal blockade and those who live abroad and feel what their own and the motherland are suffering.

The meeting was a continuation of the 4th The Nation and Emigration Conference held in Havana in November 2023, with the participation of some 440 nationals living abroad.
