Based on data from the Ministry of Productive Development and Plural Economy and the National Institute of Statistics, IBCE stated that these foreign sales grew from US$46 million in 2022 to US$57 million in 2023.
Regarding the volume, it climbed from 22,679 tons in 2022 to 25,991 tons in the year just concluded. IBCE states that 93% of quinoa exports were produced in the department of Oruro.
It adds that the main buyers of these Bolivian exports last year were the United States (41%), Germany (13 percentage points); China and the Netherlands (six units out of 100) and France (five percent).
Bolivian quinoa production achieved its highest production in 2015 with more than 75 thousand tons, however, it was in 2014 when exports of the “golden grain” reached their peak with foreign sales of US$197 million and a volume of 30 thousand tons.
