The talks focused on cooperation in peaceful programs and projects, especially in the spheres of health, cancer treatments, agriculture and scientific research, the Syrian Presidency reported in a press release.
Grossi also stressed to the Syrian leader the importance of building a continuous dialogue between the two parties.
“It was an important meeting with President Bashar Al-Assad in Damascus and agreeing on a new engagement between Syria and the IAEA with the idea of building confidence in the peaceful uses of nuclear energy in the country for the benefit of its people,” Grossi wrote on X.
The director stressed that the IAEA is intensifying its support for the Syrian health sector with a focus on caring for cancer patients.
Grossi visited the Al-Bairouni Cancer Hospital on the outskirts of Damascus, where he announced the donation of equipment to facilitate cancer detection and treatment both at that hospital and at the Tishreen Military Hospital.
