This Monday, President Gustavo Petro ordered the suspension of the bilateral and temporary national ceasefire, after the insurgents attacked the indigenous Mingas that were returning from Cali where they expressed their support for the current Colombian president in a mass event.
This implies the resumption of offensive military operations and police operations against the EMC of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia-People’s Army (FARC-EP) starting at 00:00.
“The EMC of Cauca on its different fronts did not give any sign since the beginning of wanting a serious peace process,” Petro said, adding that this structure believed, very wrongly, that the negotiation was to strengthen itself militarily by subjecting the population to its structures and financing itself with the illicit economy and large illicit capital.
“They forgot Marx’s famous thesis that said that human beings think according to their material conditions of existence. If I live off the income from drug trafficking, I will end up thinking like a drug trafficker,” he emphasized.
Petro stressed that he should have recognized that different EMC fronts in other parts of the country were more respectful of carrying out the peace process. “I regret that they withdrew, even without wanting to. The deaths that will come will be unnecessary, the life of the people should have taken precedence over the hierarchies,” he stressed, and warned that the government cannot allow the EMC, like the former Spanish slave owners, to think that killing indigenous people and poor people from the territories of Colombia is valid.
“I ask those underage to try to withdraw as soon as possible from the organization, and its young people to put the decisions of the constituent people of the southwest as their guide and not the boss with ill-gotten money,” the president urged on X. “The government will accept any person or organization that wants to make history by making peace in Colombia,” he concluded.
