US firm repeats as appropriator in hacking to Prensa Latina

Montevideo, Mar 19 (Prensa Latina) Uruguayan publication Caras y Caretas and Prensa Latina have in common the hacking of their Youtube channels, and a US company called MicroStrategy appears as an appropriator in both cyber-attacks.

The Havana-based Latin American News Agency, Prensa Latina, founded in 1959, recently denounced the loss of its YouTube channel, Prensa Latina TV, due to a cyber-attack when the channel accumulated more than 64,000 subscribers.

It is noteworthy that MicroStrategy, based in Virginia, the United States, and dedicated to developing enterprise software, appears now on YouTube, previously occupied by Prensa Latina TV, with data on the channel’s opening date and accumulated subscribers similar to those of Prensa Latina TV.

We are in deep solidarity with Prensa Latina, Alberto Grille, director of the Uruguayan print, digital, and multimedia publication, noted.

Caras y Caretas’ YouTube channel was also hacked, which shows “the vulnerability of the anti-hegemonic media.”

“Legítima Defensa” and “Macondo” programs, broadcast through our Youtube channel, were hacked in early January with practically similar procedure to the one Prensa Latina described, Grille told Prensa Latina.

Now, with the cyber-attack against Prensa Latina, we realize that MicroStrategy is once again involved in hacking, he says.

Caras y Caretas has restored its YouTube channel and resumed its broadcasts “after some hardships to recognize that the prohibited content introduced was not ours but the result of a false and criminal event.”

The executive added that the cyber-attack against Prensa Latina’s YouTube channel goes against press freedom and the freedom of speech.
