A statement from the Public Ministry reported that the investigation was entrusted to the area of Illicit Enrichment and Constitutional Complaints on the grounds of “alleged commission of the crime of illicit enrichment and failure to record a statement in documents” for the possession of a Rolex brand watch.
The measure destroyed the president’s argument, who refused to give the press further explanations, arguing that it was a personal matter.
The announcement was made hours after Prime Minister, Gustavo Adrianzén, refused to give further explanations than those given by Boluarte, which was considered unsatisfactory by journalists.
Adrianzén stressed that he would not respond again on the issue and briefly said that the president” has been sufficiently explicit in the opinion of those who speak and has responded fully on the matter; this is a personal issue that is not my place to address.”
The president previously maintained that everything she owns is the result of her work and that her Rolex is old, although according to local press, it does not appear in her asset declarations.
Radio and television stations are considering the possibility that the matter could escalate to extremes if it is confirmed that Boluarte did not include the possession of the watch in her tax return and that she may have been untruthful in maintaining that it is an antique piece.
