Dominican government evacuates 27 of its citizens from Haiti

Santo Domingo, Mar 18 (Prensa Latina) The Dominican Government evacuated 27 Dominican citizens residing in Haiti, who requested to be evacuated due to the situation of violence and insecurity that affects the nation.

The Foreign Ministry indicated that those citizens requested to be evacuated due to the difficulty of leaving Port-au-Prince through ordinary routes, as flights in Haiti are grounded.

Three helicopters from the Dominican Republic Air Force participated in the operation.

The flight, carrying 18 men, seven women and two minors, landed at the Joint Task Force heliport in Jimaní, Independencia province, where they were received by personnel from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and military officers.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that most of the evacuees were subsequently transferred by land to the headquarters of the Ministry, where they were awaited by the directors of Protection of Nationals and Consular Affairs, protocol officers and family members. Others were taken to different provinces of the country.

The access of Dominican Government aircraft into Haitian airspace was authorized by the Haitian Foreign Ministry.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Dominican Republic indicated that its embassy in Haiti keeps communication channels open for any Dominican who resides in Haiti and requires assistance.
