The request was channeled through the website Red Positivis.org, which explains that main oxygen suppliers in the market are facing serious hardships to bring the oxygen to the needed ones.
These companies, located on the outskirts or often in the middle of areas controlled by armed gangs, are currently unable to operate.
Clashes by criminal groups are endangering staff, infrastructure and equipment essential for the supply of oxygen to health care facilities.
It is crucial to create a safe humanitarian corridor to facilitate the transfer of oxygen to hospitals,” the Positivis.org Network statement emphasized.
Recently, Industrial Dynamics, one of the main suppliers, explained that fighting between armed groups in the La Saline area is the cause of the shortage.
There is currently a large shipment of oxygen in customs with duties paid, but it was impossible for the company to get it out, as La Saline is totally under the control of the gangs.
The entity’s board of directors requested the protective intervention of the Haitian National Police to escort the convoy to transport the oxygen to the warehouse, from where it will later be distributed to the care centers.
