This position, reported by the media here, was expressed by the permanent representative of Syria to the United Nations Office and other international organizations in Vienna, Ambassador Hassan Khaddour, before the high-level meeting of the sixty-seventh session of the Drug Commission.
According to the diplomat, terrorist groups have resorted to using drugs as one of their tools and weapons, and as their main source of funding.
These gangs have taken advantage of the complex political and security conditions and the geographical location of the Syrian Arab Republic to move their criminal activities across its borders, he explained.
On the other hand, he stressed that the country’s authorities are making tireless efforts to combat drug trafficking and smuggling.
