During the meeting, which took place in the City of the African Union in this capital, Tshiekedi and the British delegation discussed, among other things, the ongoing security crisis in the country’s eastern region.
“We want to help the DRC find solutions to this terrible situation. We will use all communication channels to focus on peace,” Benyon wrote on his X profile.
The British representative also reaffirmed his country’s commitment to mutually beneficial cooperation, and stressed the UK’s interest in the natural resources of the DRC, which play a crucial role in developing a sustainable economy, he noted.
Benyon pointed out that the meeting with Tshisekedi, with whom he had “effective discussions on issues, including climate change, trade, and the conflict and suffering in eastern DRC,” was a pleasure.
Several armed groups, in particular the March 23 Movement (M23), which has occupied several towns in North Kivu province, operate in this region of the country and attack civilians.
