According to a statement, the German politician and doctor detailed the proposals to Poland’s Prime Minister Donald Tusk to stop the sector’s massive protests.
The press release refers that the strategy’s aim is to further ease the administrative burden on producers and to make compliance with certain environmental requirements more flexible.
The aforementioned measures, still pending negotiation by the EU States and the European Parliament, relax the current criteria for the representatives of this area to have access to its funds.
Since January, 2024, farmers in several countries of the community group have staged protests which, in some cases, have paralyzed important cities such as Paris and Brussels.
Riots range from Portugal to Poland, although demands differ and are specific to each of the territories.
On a dialogue between Von der Leyen and Tusk, the head of the European Commission explained that the proposal determines the application of certain standards in a way that is more compatible with everyday realities.
She added that those formulations are a direct response to the requests of farmers’ organizations inside and outside Poland, according to the press release.
