El Salvador expects great tourist influx at Easter

San Salvador, Mar 15 (Prensa Latina) Authorities of El Salvador anticipate a great influx of tourists to the country next Easter Week, official sources assured today.

The Ministry of Tourism (Mitur) forecasts that an estimated 126000 international visitors will bring at least 110 million dollars to the local economy, an increase of 15 percent with respect to 2023.

The flow of visitors will come mainly from the United States, Guatemala and Honduras, so far the main emitters to the so-called Thumbelina of America.

Salvadoran tourism contributed 11 percent of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) last year.

We are not only working so they come to visit us, but also so that they come to invest, recently said the head of Mitur, Morena Valdez, during the launching of the Summer Plan 2024.

Regarding the increase in visitors, the president of the Autonomous Executive Port Commission (CEPA), Federico Anliker, said that for Easter Week they plan to receive more than 240 000 passengers at the International Airport of El Salvador, an increase of 30 percent in relation to 2023.

Talking about 2024 Summer Plan, the director of Migration and Alien Affairs, Ricardo Cucalón, stated that the institution projects to register a total migratory flow of 507,500 entries through all the country’s borders.

This will represent 11 percent more than 2023, for which measures have already been taken in terms of assigning more personnel for border checks.
