On Thursday, the United States modified the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), which controls defense articles, to include Nicaragua as a banned destination.

According to Mexican newspaper La Jornada, the US Department of Commerce also implemented more restrictive rules on Thursday to export US goods to Nicaragua, citing its “concern” over human rights abuses and deepening military ties with the Russian Government.
