Parliamentary leader congratulates Cuban journalists

Havana, Mar 14 (Prensa Latina) The president of the National People’s Power Assembly (Parliament) of Cuba, Esteban Lazo, sent congratulations to all press workers on the island, on the occasion of the National Day of that sector.

In the social network X, Lazo, who is also the president of the Council of State highlighted the essential work carried out by journalists “in providing timely information to our people, in the defense of the Revolution and in strengthening our work”.

Through that platform, Prime Minister Manuel Marrero also sent warm congratulations and his most sincere gratitude to the professionals of the press in the nation.

The head of government urged them to remain faithful to the main principles under which the newspaper Patria was born 132 years ago: “to unite and love, to live in the passion of truth”.

Leaders of social and political organizations of Cuba expressed their congratulations to journalists for the National Press Day, celebrated every March 14 in remembrance of the first issue of the newspaper Patria, founded in 1892 by National Hero José Martí to gather wills in favor of the independence and revolutionary cause.

This Thursday, the Union of Cuban Journalists (UPEC) will present the awards for the work, life, and year to outstanding professionals, in commemoration of the date.

The José Martí Memorial will be the venue for the presentation of the José Martí 2024 National Award to renowned reporter Arleen Rodríguez, as well as the annual Juan Gualberto Gómez National Awards in the categories of written press, photojournalism and graphic journalism, hypermedia journalism, radio, and television.

According to UPEC, Cuban journalists are committed to searching for a new communication and public press model for socialism.
