According to the center’s vice-president and project leader, Dr. Eduardo Lovo, with the new tool El Salvador took a step forward in confronting diseases that were considered untreatable in the region.

The specialist described Gamma Knife Icon as “a beacon of hope for the region and progress and innovation in the field of medical science” to treat vascular malformations and functional diseases such as pain, epilepsy, essential tremor, Parkinson’s, psychiatric disorders, among others.

The Gamma Knife Icon is a cutting-edge technology that offers sub-millimeter precision in delivering single, highly focused doses of radiation to intracranial tumors and lesions. This technology has a non-invasive approach that minimizes damage to surrounding healthy tissue, significantly reducing side effects and recovery time compared to conventional surgery.
