Both sides exchanged views on the current partnership, which Zhiyuan described as practical cooperation in various fields and which can be further enriched.
In October last year, Chinese President Xi Jinping and Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed announced that the long-standing comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between the two countries was upgraded to an “all-weather strategic cooperative partnership.”
The statement was released after the bilateral discussion between both presidents in the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, together with their respective delegations, during the official visit of the Ethiopian head of government.
According to official sources, only four countries in the world have a strategic partnership with China in all fields (economic, social, military, and security), and Ethiopia is the only one in Africa that established firm relations at this level.
