China: TikTok ban reveals US gangster logic

Beijing, Mar 14 (Prensa Latina) The Chinese Foreign Ministry stressed that the United States tries to appropriate other people's assets when it sees what others have, which is gangster logic contrary to fair competition.

Spokesman Wang Wenbin spoke in this way in response to the approval of a bill by the US House of Representatives that may ban the social network TikTok in the United States. “If alleged national security reasons are used to arbitrarily suppress prominent companies from other countries, then there is no justice or fairness,” he emphasized.

The legislation, named “Protecting Americans from Apps Controlled by Foreign Adversaries Act,” calls for Chinese tech giant ByteDance to divest from TikTok, or the app will be banned in the United States.

Now it’s up to the Senate to decide whether seven million small businesses and 170 million users in the United States will be left without access to the social network.

US President Joe Biden said he will sign the bill to ban TikTok if congressmen approve it.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry denounced on several occasions the abuse of the concept of national security by Washington to repress and contain China and its companies.
