OCHA’s Representative in Geneva and Director of the Humanitarian Coordination Division, Ramesh Rajasingham, who traveled to Kinshasa on Monday, talked with government officials on Tuesday about collaborating with humanitarian partners to assist affected citizens. According to the UN body, Rajasingham will visit North Kivu and South Kivu provinces to listen to the affected people, provincial authorities, humanitarian partners, and civil society organizations involved in the response.
On March 9, OCHA warned of a resurgence of violence and the deterioration of security in Ituri province, particularly in Drodro town, where ten humanitarian organizations have temporarily suspended operations, leaving only a minimal life-saving presence. “The suspension of humanitarian operations has directly affected the delivery of assistance to more than 80,000 people,” OCHA stated.
The Ituri province has 1.8 million displaced until February 29, the body pointed out. More than 215,000 Congolese had fled to Goma city since early February, where more than 630,000 displaced people are sheltered as of March 1.
