At the end of the election cycle with the victory of President Nayib Bukele and the predominance of the New Ideas party in all the instances of power, groups such as Alianza Nacionalista Republicana (Arena), Gran Alianza por la Unidad Nacional (Gana), right, and Frente Farabundo Marti para la Liberacion Nacional (FMLN), left, are at the crossroads.

This is what the media and analysts say, assuring that the political institutions will either renew themselves to face Bukele, or they will disappear from the local political scene.

The newspaper El Mundo is among those who believe that the members of the three parties want to change their leaderships due to the electoral results of 2024, where Bukele and Nuevas Ideas strengthened their protagonism in the Salvadoran political scenario and threaten to remain in power for a long time if a better offer does not emerge.

The electoral results eroded the electoral sympathy of several political parties and many members of the three groups are calling for a change in the leadership of their political institutions, in order to enter a new cycle and prevent the perpetuation in power of the group in government, whose ranks include dissidents from the FMLN and other forces.
